"The Pool" is the 17th episode of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball.
Synopsis
In the midst of a heatwave, Richard enlists Gumball and Darwin to assist him in his mission to jump in the Robinson's newly-installed above ground pool.
Plot
Elmore is experiencing a massive heat wave. While Nicole and Anais are camping by the ice cream section of Elmore Shopping, Richard attempts to set up a kiddie pool for Gumball and Darwin to no avail, as its so hot the water boiled and evaporated within seconds. Suddenly they feel a cool breeze blowing towards them coming from Mr. Robinson having his air conditioner on at full blast. As they enjoy the brief escape from the heat, Mr. Robinson spots them and angrily tells them his air is private. He attempts to close the window, but has difficulties with his house's controls and sets a number of devices off.
The remote also unveils a large pool in their backyard. Richard asks if he and the boys can go in, but Mr. Robinson refuses, putting aside the harsh economical realities Richard's generation faces and claims he should've made "rich life choices" before slamming the door on them. An irate Richard vows to find a way to sneak him and his sons into the pool. He has them use trash bags to dress up like ninjas and plans to use a rake to vault them over to the other side, but he proves too uncoordinated for it to work, so he decides to try talking to them.
They then go to the front door and talk to Margaret. Richard tries a more sympathetic approach, and while it at first seems to work and she agrees, she then gives them shoes made of concrete to "cool them off for good" and maniacally laughs as she tells them to get lost. Gumball and Darwin then stage a protest by making Mr. Robinson watch them burn up in the sun, but he gleefully puts on sunglasses while watching them suffer. As they dry up and nearly become ash, Richard pleas with Mr. Robinson once again to help them, but he laughs as he uses his sunglasses to reflect the burning sun onto Richard's chest. An enraged Richard takes his boys out of the sun's rays as he leaves the scene.
Gumball and Darwin rejuvenate in the shed, where they find Richard has gone off the deep end and is now digging a large tunnel underneath their yards while ranting on Mr. Robinson's comments on his parenting skills. He plans to sneak them to the pool underground since they can't do it above, but he accidentally breaks into the pool's water line, completely draining it as the tunnel is briefly flooded and sends the three boys back to their yard.
Seeing the large hole he's created in the pool, Richard instructs his sons to fix it while he distracts Mr. Robinson. He rings the doorbell and apologizes for harassing Mr. Robinson, saying he was trying to help his kids. To his surprise, his comments move his neighbor to tears. Mr. Robinson reveals that the true reason he doesn't allow anyone in the pool is because the one person he got it for never got to swim in it. A flashback is shown of a young Mr. Robinson being motivated to work hard by his son, Rocky, and he slowly climbs up the ranks at the company before taking charge and becoming a millionaire. Despite enjoying the luxuries that came with being at the top, he also mistreated his coworkers and his son.
Mr. Robinson says the downside of his success is that he missed all the important parts of his son's life while growing up, and he brought the pool to buy him back before kicking him out of the house for accusing them of being toxic for getting rich off of pesticide. Gumball and Darwin then return with Rocky, who was trapped earlier after the sun melted his ice cream truck. Mr. Robinson enthusiastically goes to put on his swimming suit, while Richard tells Gumball he and Darwin were supposed to go fix the pool not their relationship.
Richard, Gumball, and Darwin desperately try to plug the hole with various items in the shed such as an old arts and crafts box and duct tape, but none of them seem to work. They seemingly have it ready by the time Mr. Robinson brings Rocky out there, but when they jump in, it quickly falls apart as they end up diving into painted on newspapers meant to resemble water. Mr. Robinson insists the Wattersons join them, and they reluctantly agree as they dive into the empty pool. As the five writhe in pain on the concrete, Gumball sarcastically remarks that Richard did get them to the pool in the end.

- Interestingly, Mr. Robinson's tears are shown to be yarn in this episode. However, in "The Heart," Mr. Robinson's tears are normal liquid water.

- This is Mr. Robinson's ninth major role. The first eight were "The Debt," "The Poltergeist," "The Car," "The Tag," "The Boss," "The Sale," "The Love," and "The Heart."
- This is the third time music or ambience from a title card transfers directly into the beginning of an episode, the other two being "The Night" and "The Singing."
- This is the second time Rocky is seen without his fur. The first was in "The Mystery."
- The unusual January heatwave could be a callback to "The Assistant," where climate change in mid winter is mentioned.
- Mr. Robinson's past is explored, and his company apparently developed pesticide, which is part of the reason Rocky left him.
Cultural references
- The scene where Gumball and Darwin burn up under the sun in protest is reminiscent of the scene in The Spongebob Squarepants Movie where Spongebob and Patrick dry up after being placed under a heat lamp.
- When the boys are trying to fix the pool and crying, Richard's cry bears resemblence to the Peanuts crying.
Goofs/errors
- The official synopsis of the episode on Hulu says Anais would be helping, but apart from a cameo at the start she is absent for the entire episode.

Hot Sunny Day
- [Rocky is driving an ice cream truck, but suddenly it melts on the road, steaming. Rocky tries to get out of the goo, but the sun hardens him. It cuts to the tv, where it displays the weather channel.]

- [The channel plays the outro as it cuts to Gumball and Darwin hiding underneath the steps in their backyard. Meanwhile, Richard is filling up a kiddies pool with water, while holding an umbrella.]
- Richard: It’s ready. You can come out!
- [Gumball and Darwin look nervous, while still underneath the steps.]
- Richard: Hurry up before the water warms up! Ah.
- Gumball: Okay, okay, let’s go.[Groans]
- [The pool starts to boil, as Gumball and Darwin make their way. They both go to it, but hides underneath the shade for three times. Once they both jump in, the pool pops from boiling. Gumball and Darwin fall face first and now is sad.]
- Gumball and Darwin: Aww.
- Richard:Oh, uh, don’t worry. I’ll just fill this up instead.
- [Richard takes the plant out of the pot, then he grabs his water hose. When he turned it on, instead of water, fire came out which made Richard set everything in the backyard on fire. It also fright Gumball and Darwin a little.]
- Gumball: Told you we should have gone grocery shopping with the girls.
- [It cuts to Nicole and Anais at the freezer section in the grocery store. They both lay down on the floor with the tent on them to trap the cold air in. Then, Larry notices them.]
- Larry: Um. Excuse me, ma’am, but you can’t- [Surprised]
- [Nicole tosses Larry four quarters in his hand, before giving him a Buy one get one free coupon and took back a quarter. It cuts back to the boys suffering. Suddenly, cool air start gushing at them, which made them cool off.]
- Gumball: Wait, what is this?
- [The boys lean on the fence as the cool air breezes on them. It shows Mr. Robinson left the window open, which relief the boys. But then Mr. Robinson turns and catches them stealing his air.]
- Gaylord: What the… What do you think you’re doing? This fresh air is private.
- [Mr. Robinson accidentally presses a bunch of button which trigger many things around the house.]
- Gaylord: Stupid remote, just-
Mr. Robinson’s Pool
- [The window shuts on his head multiple times, then shut on his face. Meanwhile Mr. Robinson is still pressing buttons, which revealed his luxury pool. Mr. Robinson gets out of the window, but without his face.]
- Gaylord: Huh? [yells]
- [Mr. Robinson gets outside, but got bumped on his head. Meanwhile, the boys look at the pool with satisfaction.]
- Richard: Mr. Robinson, can we please take a dive in your pool?
- Gaylord: Absolutely not! [Mumbles] Why won’t this stupid thing…
- [Mr. Robinson keeps pressing more buttons. This made Mrs. Robinson move her recliner to the air conditioner, which was dropping temperature. She freezes into ice and falls down the stairs. Then a robot cleans her up. Mr. Robinson yells, then gives up in the app and goes to the Wattersons.]
- Gaylord: Get a job and pay for your own pool!
- Richard: But the-
- Gaylord: Na, na, na. “But the cost of everything, with salaries, na, na, na!” It’s always excuses and harsh economical realities with your generation. You’re poor because you made poor life choices.
- [Mr. Robinson goes back inside.]
- Gaylord: You should’ve made rich life choices.
- [Richard now looks upset at Mr. Robinson and gets back on the grass.]
- Richard: I’m gonna prove to that glorified oven mitt I’m a good father.
- Darwin: How? By getting a job and buying us a pool?
- Richard: [Laughs] What? No. By making you guys trespass onto his property illegally.
- Gumball and Darwin: Hmm.
- [It cuts to the sun being extremely heated, before Richard, Gumball, and Darwin pop out from the garbage bags.]
- Gumball, Darwin, and Richard: Ha!
- Richard: We’ll use this staff to vault to the other side. Ninja!
- [Richard starts playing with the staff/hoe before losing control and hitting his face. He then steps on the hoe he dropped, which smacked his face onto the ground.]
- Richard: Okay, let’s just try and ask them nicely.
Asking Mrs. Robinson
- [It cuts to them on the Robinson's porch talking to Mrs. Robinson with a translator app.]
- Margaret: Meh. [15x]
- Richard: She said, “My husband already said no.” [Groans] But Margaret, look at how hot it is out here. What about the children?
- [Gumball and Darwin is sobbing as they are also melting from the heat. Mrs. Robinson looks at them and changes her mind.]
- Margaret: Meh. [20x]
- Richard: “I suppose these unusual circumstances can justify an exception.” [Gasp] “You can go into out backyard and have a swim in our pool during my husband’s nap.” [chuckles]
- Gumball and Darwin: Yay!
- Margaret: Meh. [7x]
- Richard: [Gasp] “I’ll even add something that should cool you off for good.”
- [Gumball and Darwin gasp, but Margaret gives Gumball shoes onto harden concrete. Margaret changes her expression to evil.]
- Margaret: Meh… Meh… Meh…
- Gumball: Well, you don’t need to translate that.
- [It cuts to Mr. Robinson and Mrs. Robinson laughing at them.]
- Gaylord: They really thought they could sweet talk her. Like she’s the better half. [Laughs] Her heart’s as open as a car wash in a monsoon.
- [Mr. Robinson keeps laughing as Richard is wailing.]
- Gumball: Chill dad. I’ve got a plan. But unlike you, it might actually work.
- [It cuts to Mr. Robinson still laughing at them.]
- Gaylord: Margaret, of all people. It’s funny, ‘cause I married a monster. [Laughs nervously] Oh…
- Gumball: [Yelling] Mr. Robinson!
- Gaylord: Huh? What is this?
- [Mr. Robinson walks towards them on the fence. Gumball and Darwin are laying on the ground.]
- Gumball: Your heart won’t be able to watch us suffer Mr. Robinson.
- [The sun looks intense at them, Mr. Robinson feels the heat, but stays to watch them suffer. Gumball and Darwin are burning to a crisp as Mr, Robinson is watching them. He then grabbed a pair of sunglasses, mini fan, and then lemonade to show that he is not hot at all. Finally, Richard steps in for them.]
- Richard: No stop, please! Let them take a dive in that pool.
- [The sun's ray burn into Richard saying “NO” Which was caused by Mr. Robinson. This made Richard more upset and take his kids to the shed. Gumball and Darwin rewatched as they both looked into the tunnel.]
Dad Has Gone Crazy
- Gumball: Dad? [Echoing]
- [Richard is heard mumbling as Gumball and Darwin goes into the tunnel.]
- Richard: I’m a bad dad? Good on that! I’ll show him how much I love my babies. I love my babies!
- Gumball: Uh, dad? Are you okay?
- [Richard turns around and menacingly laughs which freaked the, out.]
- Darwin: I think Mr. Robinson’s words got to him.
- Richard: I had a glorious idea. If I can’t get you into that pool above, I’ll do it from under!
- [Richard again laugh menacingly as he hit his shovel onto the dirt which water can be heard coming.]
- Gumball:Oh yes, glorious.
- [Water starts to fill up, as Mr. Robinson’s water from the pool is drained out. Gumball, Darwin, and Richard blast up from a mud gizer and land into their backyard in mud.]
- Richard: Well, that helped me cool off a little, and it’s come to my attention that I might have overreacted a little.
- Gaylord: Did you hear that sound, Margaret?
- [The boys dashes to the fence and sees the pool water gone and has a massive hole in the middle.]
- Richard: [Gasp] Oh no!
- Darwin: Mr. Dad, what do we do?
- Richard: Shh! You try and fix things, I’ll create a diversion.
- [Mr. Robinson was about to see his pool, but leaves for the doorbell. He opens the door to see Richard.]
- Gaylord: What do you want?
- Richard: Oh hey, I, uh… I just wanted to apologize for harassing you like that earlier. I just… I just want my kids to have everything they need. You know, and-
- [tears of yarn splashes on Richard]
- Richard: Uh, are you okay?
- [Mr. Robinson starts crying out yarn and sniffs his nose.]
Mr. Robinson's Biggest Regret
- Gaylord: I understand. The real reason I wouldn’t let you in the pool is that the person I build it for never got to swim in it.
- [Flashback to Mr. Robinson at an office, working.]
- Gaylord: All my life, I worked.
- [Someone gives Mr. Robinson more paper]
- Gaylord: I worked hard, but I knew why I was doing it.
- [Mr. Robinson looks at the picture of Rocky and he keeps working. He is given piles of paper to work on, which gives him the employee of the month. He keeps getting promoted and older as it keeps going on. He is seen driving a Lamborghini, but it cuts to him humming, while Richard is awkwardly there.]
- Richard: [Gasp] What are you two doing here? I said fix things.
- [Gumball and Darwin runs off to fix things. It cuts back to the flashback, Mr. Robinson at a board meeting. He then got a business he opened up. He then got too busy for his real son, and went on to do a lot of things.]
- Richard: Uh… Uh sorry, but where is this going?
- Gaylord: Eh? Uh, I don’t know, I forgot why I was sad. I was killing it. [Laughs]
- Richard: The Pool?
- Gaylord: Oh, yeah. I missed every important part of my son’s childhood. I actually build this pool to but him back. But we kicked him out of the house before it was finished. But we kicked him out of the house, before it was finished. Because he accused us of… heh. Hold on.
- [Mr. Robinson try to spray something at the fly, but then it missed. It made the Billy and Parham cough, killed a bird, and put a hold into the atmosphere.]
- Gaylord He accused us of being toxic. Apparently making money in pesticide is destroying the planet. Ridiculous. In truth, all I did was for him.
- Gumball: [Yelling] Don’t worry Mr. Robinson! We found him for you.
- [Gumball and Darwin carried Rocky in harden from the beginning of the episode. Which he breaks free and is gasping for air, then passed out.]
- Gumball: And I believe he would love to go swimming with you Mr, Robinson.
- Gaylord: I’ll go put on my swimming suit.
- Richard: What is this?
- Gumball: What do you mean? We fixed things.
- Richard: I meant the pool, not the relationship!
- Gumball: Fix the pool? I’m 12 and he’s 10.
- Richard: Ueah, but that’s a combined age of, uh… uh… uh…
- Gumball: Ugh! It’s 23, Dad, come on.
- Richard: You know I’m no good with even numbers.
Fixing The Pool
- [The boys runs to the shed and looks into the boxes.]
- Gumball: What do we use to plug it?
- Richard: This!
- [Richard is hold a box called Craft for Kids.]
- Gumball and Darwin: Uh…
- [They both stress as Mr. Robinson picks out his swimming suit. Gumball and Darwin gives Richard paper to munch and then spits to the pool. Gumball and Darwin try to cover to, but it falls.]
- Richard: Ah!
- [Richard grabs newspapers to cover it. Then Mr. Robinson grabs a towel. They all use everything in the art supply as Mr. Robinson is going downstairs. The art supplies fell into the hole which they all cry. Mr. Robinson give Rocky a hand as Gumball and Darwin tape up the hole, but Richard ruins it by pouring water in. Mr. Robinson carries Rocky to the pool, while the boys are painting blue over the tape, crying.]
- Gaylord: Son, my biggest regret was… well, not my biggest regret. [chuckles] My biggest regret was not investing in cryptocurrency. But my second regret is not spending enough time with you. Huh?
- [Rocky groans as the pool is reveals to be normal.]
- Gaylord: Yes. Let this water cleanse our past.
- [Mr. Robinson and Rocky jumps into the pool, but rips into it. They both fall into the bottom of the pool.]
- Gaylord: You should join us.
- Richard: Oh no, [Laughs] I think we’re good. Thank you.
- Gaylord: I insist.
- Rocky: Hmmm.
- [Gumball, Darwin, and Richard sighs.]
- Richard: Sorry kids.
- [All three of them dive into the pool, landing onto the concrete.]
- Gumball: Well, you did get us into that pool in the end.
