"The Goons" is the twenty-first episode of Season 1 of The Amazing World of Gumball.
Synopsis
Gumball teaches Anais how to be dumb, and after Richard begins to show favoritism towards her, Gumball has to win Dad back in a dumb race.

The first game the three play is called "I Am the President," which involves a president ordering everyone else to do various tasks, like getting an extremely repulsive-smelling sock, using it as a flag, and kissing it (and choking). Anais does not understand and they stop playing. Nicole then comes to the window and offers Anais a game of puzzles, which prompts her to try and keep learning.
They then get ready for the next activity. Gumball asks Anais if she has her notebook ready. Gumball then gets her to write Rule #1: "Dumb people do not take notes." Anais writes what Gumball said, but as she finishes, Darwin snatches her notebook and pencil, writes something in it, hands it to Gumball, who throws it out the window, onto the windscreen of the Robinson's car, blinding Mr. Robinson, and making him crash into a fire hydrant.
The next activity is learning to speak dumb, which, as a pretend language, consists of the word "dumb" said in multiple ways. Gumball and Darwin demonstrate. Anais tries, but ends up saying "something very rude" and does not understand. Then, Gumball and Darwin sing a song that consists only of the word "dumb." It seems to have some resemblance to the Gumball theme at the start. She is frustrated, but she decides to try yet again.
Gumball and Darwin decide for Anais to try and make a sandwich the "dumb way." She starts about by slathering the mayo on the bread, but Gumball and Darwin laugh and state that it is wrong and demonstrate yet again. Anais is even more frustrated and does not know why dumb people act the way they do.
The three go outside for the next activity, but Anais states that she cannot understand the way dumb people think. She realizes that they do not think, and has an epiphany. Richard comes outside, offering a game of Fruit Ball, which Anais wishes to join. Richard is surprised, but lets her play. The four have dumb fun, and later go to bed.
The next day, Gumball wakes up, only to find himself as the only one still in the bedroom. He finds Darwin and Anais toe-wrestling with Richard in the backyard. There is no room for him, as Richard only has two feet, there is already a judge, spectators, and anything else. Gumball goes inside, being repeatedly left out of dumb activities, and being driven to the point of playing puzzles with Nicole. He cannot solve the puzzle, even with only one piece left to use. Gumball and Nicole awkwardly part ways and Gumball decides to get his dad back from Anais.
A "dumb race" with blindfolds is organized, which involves the person who runs furthest away from the start being awarded as "the dumbest;" opening your eyes is cheating. Idaho, Banana Joe, Rocky, Anton, and Richard are out, Richard being accidentally proposed to by Larry, who was having a picnic with his girlfriend. Anais, Gumball, and Darwin are still in, Gumball upset at Anais the entire way. Anais says that she only wanted to be dumb for a day, which makes Gumball feel better. They make up, stopping just before a highway, and get run over by Marvin.
In the hospital, Rocky, Banana Joe, and Anton are in beds, as well as Gumball and Anais. Dr. Butt comes to see Gumball, who looks remarkably like Richard's butt (despite not being it), and Nicole and Richard see the children. Gumball is reinstated as "the dumbest person ever," and Anais is out as she does not want to be dumb anymore. Richard states that the dumb race happened all because of the kids competing for his affection when his favorite is in fact, Darwin. Gumball, Anais, and Nicole gets angry at him, and Richard quickly adds on "favorite fish." The family then notices Darwin is missing; he is still running the dumb race, running around in circles and asking if he is winning, then running into a tree.

Goofs/errors
- Darwin is shown to have three toes on his feet.
- Although Anais and Richard stated that the couch would be uncomfortable with more than three people, there have been instances where all five were able to sit on the couch.
- Idaho was not shown in the hospital, despite being hit by a golf club. This could be because he landed far from the hospital and was not found.
- Richard claims that he ended in the hospital hurt, despite the fact he did not get injured in the Dumb Race on-screen.
- Before Gumball throws Anais' note, his whiskers vanish.
- While Gumball and Darwin were singing the dumb song, Gumball had five fingers instead of his usual four.
- The color of Idaho's blindfold changes from black to white between scenes.
- Additionally, in one scene where his blindfold is black, he is also missing his mouth and limbs.
- The title card of this episode stopped showing on the episode after its airing date.
- The number of puzzle pieces when Nicole and Gumball are sitting at the table constantly changes: from three, two, none, and finally one.
- When Gumball is sitting with Nicole, as the time lapse passes by, the texture of the puzzle piece molds into Gumball's arm (It is textured cyan and brunette). This is fixed as soon as the camera angle changes.

- [Richard, Gumball and Darwin are fooling around, playing "Butt Puppets." They all have their butts on the table, with sunglasses on them; Anais is making puzzles with Nicole at the coffee table]
- Gumball: Get off my lawn, Watterson!
- Richard: "Butt" why, Mr. Robinson?
- Darwin: Don't be so cheeky!
- [Richard, Gumball and Darwin laugh; Camera cuts to Anais]
- Nicole: C'mon sweetie, one puzzle; one thousand pieces of fun.
- Anais: Mom, can we do something, you know...not boring?
- Nicole: You mean like the two thousand piece puzzle?
- Anais: No something more like that.
- [Camera turns back to Richard, Darwin and Gumball]
- Gumball: I'm going to get to the bottom of this.
- [Everyone Laughs]
- Richard: Hahahaha, bottom!
- Nicole: [Opens puzzle] Anais, I think you are a bit too intelligent for that kind of behavior.
- Anais: Well if being intelligent means no fun then I don't want to be intelligent anymore. [Walks away] By the way those go there. [Quickly finishes puzzle]
- Nicole: [Pulls out a camera and takes picture] Nice...
- [Anais walks up to Gumball]
- Anais: Gumball, can I speak to you?
- Gumball: [Flicks fingers and points to his bottom] My eyes are up here.
- Anais: How come you guys never ask me to play with you.
- Gumball: Well, [Cleans glasses] we thought you liked puzzles.
- Anais: Yeah, puzzles are okay, but i'd like to join you and be dumb for a change, just for a day.
- Gumball: [Scratches butt] For a day, huh...
- Richard and Darwin: Hmm...
- Darwin: I think we should give her a chance.
- Gumball: Okay then.
- Anais: Yay!
"I'm the President."
- [Gumball, Darwin and Anais are in the garden]
- Gumball: Here's a game we like to play. It's called "I'm the President".
- Anais: What are the rules?
- Gumball: Well, I'm the president, and you have to do what I say.
- Darwin: Yes sir, Mr. President, sir!
- Gumball: Now, go get the stinkiest thing you can find in the house.
- Darwin: Yes sir, Mr. President, sir!
- [Darwin runs away and Gumball raises eyebrow at Anais]
- Anais: I'm not doing that!
- Gumball: You have to, I'm the President.
- Anais: But the...but...Why?
- [Darwin comes back with a sock on a stick]
- Darwin: Mr. President sir, I found one of Mr. Dad's socks.
- Gumball: Is it sweaty?
- Darwin: Yes sir, it's crunchy on the outside and moldy on the inside. Just the way you like it, sir!
- Gumball: Good job, soldier! This shall be our flag, and in Dumb Land, what's the motto?
- Gumball and Darwin: "Dumbus Kissus Flagus!"
- [Gumball and Darwin kiss the flag and fall down, groaning]
- Anais: This is so dumb.
- Darwin: That's the point! [Continues groaning]
- Anais: I just don't get it.
- [Nicole speaks to Anais from inside the house]
- Nicole: Anais, look, honey! Porcupine parade, three thousand pieces!
- Anais: [Whispering] Please, teach me.
How to be Dumb
- [Back in the Wattersons' house]
- Gumball: Okay now, notepad ready?
- Anais: Yep.
- Gumball: The first rule of dumb is that dumb people don't take notes.
- Anais: [Writing down on her notepad] Don't...take...notes.
- [Darwin walks up to Anais, grabs her notepad and hands it to Gumball. Gumball checks the notepad, then throws it outside, breaking the window; The notepad lands on Mr. Robinson's windshield while he is driving]
- Gaylord: [While driving] Aaaaaah!
- [His car crashes into a fire hydrant]
- Gaylord: [Screaming angrily] My car!
- [Camera cuts back to Watterson's lounge room]
- Gumball: Now, if you want to be dumb, you've got to speak dumb. Darwin and me will demonstrate; dumb.
- Darwin: Dumb.
- Gumball: Dumb dumb dumb.
- Darwin: Dumb dumb dumb dumb.
- Gumball: Now you try it.
- Anais: [Looks confused] Dumb dumb dumb?
- [Gumball starts to chuckle and Darwin is shocked]
- Anais: What?
- Gumball: It's just what you said is really rude.
- Darwin: Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
- Anais: Well, come on, how do you speak dumb?
- Gumball: Here's a little song that might help you.
- [Gumball and Darwin coughing for the song]
- Gumball and Darwin: [Singing while playing the air guitar] Dumb dumb dumb, dumb dumb dumb, duh duh dumb dumb dumb.
- [Gumball raises his hand with a rock sign]
- Darwin: [Performing his air guitar solo while singing] Dumb duh duh duh dumb, duma duma duma duma duma dumaner DUM.
- [Gumball and Darwin breath of exhaustion]
- Anais: Nope, I don't get it.
Knowing How to be Dumb
- [Scene changes to the kitchen]
- Gumball: Okay, now Anais I want you to make a sandwich but like a dumb person would.
- [Gumball and Darwin are staring at Anais, when Anais is squirting mayonnaise on the bread, then Gumball and Darwin chuckle]
- Anais: What?
- Gumball: Oh, nothing! It's just smart people always struggle with that one.
- Anais: How do you do it then?
- Gumball: Watch and learn.
- [Gumball and Darwin run around the table, then put the bread on the table; They slam their faces into the bread and it sticks to them; Darwin holds a stick of butter, then Gumball grabs some of the butter and puts some on the bread on his face while Darwin throws Swiss cheese into the air; Gumball and Darwin slam the bread on their faces into the Swiss cheese, then the bread comes off their faces and the completed sandwich lands on the table]
- Gumball and Darwin: [While clapping] Ha ha ha ha ha.
- Anais: [Confused] Nope, I don't get it.
- [Scene changes to the backyard]
- Gumball: Look, it's not complicated, all you need to do is think dumb, Darwin if you please.
- Darwin: [Trying to pop up his head] Huuuuah [Opens up his head, exposing his brain] Take a look.
- [Anais takes a look inside Darwin's head, Darwin's brain has 2 eyes and a body; it is tap dancing to some music; Anais still looks confused]
- Anais: I'm never going to get this.
- [Darwin closes his head]
- Gumball: Ah, don't feel bad. It takes years of dedication to think dumb like we do.
- Anais: Aw, come on, guys. You guys don't think dumb, you don't think at all. [Anais realizes something and whispers] That's it! [Then back to her normal voice] That's it, you literally don't think at all.
- Gumball: Hum humph.
- Anais: For example, [Holding a red pepper] most people will think twice about putting a hot chili in their mouth, but because you didn't think even once.
- [Gumball is jumping in pain because his mouth is on fire]
- Gumball: AHHH! Ohh! AHHHH!
- Anais: You've already done it, [Raising her arms up] I finally get it! I know how to be dumb!
- Gumball, Darwin and Anais: YAY!!
- [The door to the kitchen opens, revealing Richard]
- Richard: Anyone want to play fruitball?
- Anais: [Jumping] I do! I do!
- Richard: Really? [Whispers] I thought she liked puzzles.
- Gumball: Not anymore.
- Anais: I'm now fluent in the beautiful art of dumbness.
- Richard: Okay then. She's in.
- Gumball, Darwin, Anais and Richard: [Gumball has a pineapple in his hands] LET'S PLAY FRUITBALL!!
- [Gumball has a watermelon, Anais has a tomato and Darwin has a pineapple]
- Gumball: You ready dad?
- Richard: [Spins and stops with a baseball bat] Whoooooo! [Hits himself with a baseball bat 3 times] Yep. [Positioning himself]
- Gumball, Darwin and Anais: YAY!! WHOOOHOO!!
- Richard: [Hits the pineapple with a baseball bat] YEAAAHHHH! HA HA HA HA!!
- Darwin: [Throwing the apple] WHOOOOO!!
- Richard: [Hits the tomato] YEAHHH! HA HA! [In slow motion]
- Gumball: [In slow motion in a deep voice] OOOHHHH! [Getting hit with parts of the watermelon]
- Darwin: [In slow motion in a deep voice] OHHHHH [Getting hit with parts of the pineapple]
- Anais: [In slow motion in a deep voice] OHHHHH [Getting hit with parts of the tomato all over her face] OHHHHHH! AH HA HA HA!
- [Scene changes back at the Wattersons' house at night time]
- Anais: [Off screen yawning] Thanks, Gumball. I had a great day.
- Gumball: [Off screen yawning] Me too.
- [Sound of clicking, outside the window the light switches off]
Toe Wrestling
- [Scene changes to the next day morning in Gumball and Darwin bedroom]
- Gumball: [Wakes up in bed yawning] What shall we do today guys? [Notices nobody is in his room] Guys?
- [In the backyard Richard is putting both of his foot on Darwin's and Anais' foot while pushing, then Gumball walks to them]
- Gumball: Hey, what are you doing?
- Anais: We're toe wrestling with dad. [Anais' big toe has the drawing of a bearded wrestler and Darwin's big toe has the drawing and is decorated as a blond wrestler] This little Pinky's going down.
- Darwin: In a deep voice I'm gonna toe nail you to the floor.
- Gumball: Cool. Can I join in?
- Darwin: Mr. Dad's only got two feet and they're kinda taken.
- Gumball: That's okay. I can be the referee.
- Anais: We already have one. [Anais and Darwin's foot are pushing each other]
- Richard: [Richard's big toe has a drawing drawing of a referee] Now, I want a good clean fight.
- Gumball: I'll be the spectator then.
- Anais: Yeah we kinda have those as well.
- Darwin: [Darwin's toes have drawings of spectators with a foam finger at the pinky toe then Darwin's big toe throws a mini chair at Richard's big toe] BOOOO.
- Darwin, Anais and Richard: [Laughing] Ha Ha Ha Ha
- Gumball: Oh fine. I'll just go and have some breakfast. [Walks away]
- Anais: What? We didn't hear you. We're having too much fun.
Complicated Puzzle Piece
- [Gumball is sitting angrily at the table with Nicole, while Anais, Richard, and Darwin are playing a game of 'I'm the President']
- Anais: Dumbus Kissus Flagus!
- Richard and Darwin: Yes, madam president! [They kiss the sock/flag and falls down]
- Gumball: I can't believe this. I told her how to be dumb, and now she's totally stealing Dad.
- Nicole: Oh, don't be like that, honey. I'm sure they'll include you in a second.
- [Richard, Darwin, and Anais are now playing video games on the couch]
- Anais: This couch is really good for three people.
- Richard: Yeah, if we had a fourth person, it would be kinda cramped.
- [Gumball grunts]
- Nicole: Okay, well...[Gasps] how about you play with me?!
- Gumball: [Uninterested] Yeah, okay, see how she likes it if I steal Mom from her!
- Nicole: Oh, we're gonna have so much fun! C'mon, Gumball, just one piece left! [Takes out camera]
- [Gumball takes puzzle piece and looks at the puzzle; After sometime, Nicole fell asleep and Gumball is still trying to figure out where the puzzle piece goes then Gumball rapidly put the puzzle piece around the puzzle]
- Gumball: You know what, Mom?
- Nicole: [Wakes up startled and accidentally takes picture] Yes sweetheart?
- Gumball: [Throws puzzle piece away] I don't think this is gonna work out.
- Nicole: Oh, I'm so glad you said that. Let's agree to never do this again. [Holds out her hand]
- Gumball: [Shakes Nicole's hand] Done.
- [Awkward silence for a few seconds]
- Gumball: So... I'm gonna go, this way. [Points to the left]
- Nicole: Sure. [Follows Gumball but Gumball turns around] Oh! Sorry, uh, I'll go that way. [Both leave]
- [Scene changes to Darwin, Anais, and Richard as they were on a shaking washing machine laughing]
- Richard, Darwin and Anais: EARTHQUAKE!
- [The washing machine turns off]
- Richard: Do it again! Do it again!
- [Anais turns on washing machine and it shakes again then all of them laugh again]
- Richard, Darwin and Anais: EARTHQUAKE!
- Gumball: [Looks through the door's window] She thinks she's so dumb. Well, I'll show her who's the dumbest in the whole town! Then Dad will be mine again! [Starts laughing maniacally]
The Dumb Race
- [A bunch of people are at a starting line. Gumball is still laughing maniacally]
- Anais: Gumball?
- Gumball: [Stops laughing] Yes?
- Anais: Can you tell us why we're here now?
- Gumball: You're here to race. As you can see, I've gathered the stupidest people in town.
- Rocky: Word.
- Gumball: Everyone has to wear a blindfold and run as fast as you can. The person who gets the furthest, is officially the dumbest. Dad, you'll be the referee.
- Richard: Okay guys, I want a good clean race! Anyone opening their eyes is disqualified. [Everyone puts on their blindfolds] On your marks, get set, wait for it, go! [Everyone starts running] Oh! [Puts on his blindfold] I can't resist the call of dumbness! [Starts running]
- Gumball: You might have won Dad sis, but I'm not gonna let you win this!
- Anais: What do you mean, won dad?
- Tobias: I'm winning, I'm winning! [Accidentally grabs some balloons and floats away] I'M NOT WINNING!
- Rocky: Who's the dumbest? Who's the dumbest?
- [Idaho runs into bush and bumps into a golf ball. He feels the golf ball]
- Idaho: Mama? [Golf club hits him, and he flies away]
- [Banana Joe runs through a barbed wire, and is sliced into pieces]
- Banana Joe: I'm a banana split! [Laughs, then slowly stops] It hurts.
- [Anton runs into lake, and some ducks try to eat him]
- Rocky: Who's the dumbest? Who's the dumbest? Who's the dumbest? [Bumps into branch and falls down] I'm Ok.
- [Richard jumps on Rocky and continues running]
- Larry: Oh Karen, this is just the perfect day. I was wondering... [Opens a box with a diamond ring inside]
- Karen: Yes Laurence?
- [Richard carries Larry away]
- Larry: Will you marry me?
- Richard: [Stops running and puts Larry down] This is happening so fast! Erm oh, I am not saying no, [Removes blindfold] definitely not saying no. [Sighs] But I need to think about this. [Richard walks around the park thinking, and then sits on a bench. Tobias is seen floating away]
- [Scene changes to Gumball and Anais again]
- Gumball: You're taking my place at home, and I am taking it back!
- Anais: Are you kidding Gumball? I just want to be dumb for a day! No one could be dumber than you!
- [They both stop running]
- Gumball: Wow! That's a really nice thing to say, I kinda feel awkward now!
- Anais: Should we just hug?
- Gumball: Gosh, ya, okay!
- [They both hug, a few cars passes by them]
- Gumball: Whoa! That was close!
- Anais: I think we outdone ourselves! Let's go home!
- [Marvin runs over Gumball, then Anais]
- Gumball and Anais: Ow! Ow! Ow!
- Marvin: Huh? [Removes blindfold] Oh, the eyes! I blew it.
At the Hospital
- [Tobias is seen floating above the Hospital. The camera changes to see Rocky, Banana Joe, Anton, Gumball and Anais laying in hospital beds, sighing]
- Dr. Butt: [Looks and sounds like Richard's "Butt Puppet"] Hello, I'm Dr. Butt! And I'm going to take your temperature-
- Gumball: [Interrupts] Dad! I can't play "Butt Puppet" right now.
- Dr. Butt: [Sighs] I was only trying to help.
- [Dr. Butt walks away and Nicole and Richard walk up to Gumball]
- Nicole: Ugh... this is all your fault, Richard.
- Richard: Well as Referee, I did everything I could to ensure everyone's safety!
- Nicole: And six kids ended up in the hospital.
- Richard: Four! Rocky and me are grown up.
- Rocky: Word.
- Nicole: And you, Gumball Watterson. That was a very dumb thing to do.
- Gumball: Aww... Thanks!
- Nicole: Ugh... And as for you, young lady, I expected more.
- Anais: Aw mom. I think I don't wanna be dumb anymore. Because it hurts so bad!
- Richard: And all this is because you guys wanted to be my favorite, when we all know in fact that Darwin is my favorite! [Anais, Nicole and Gumball glare at Richard] Fish! My favorite fish! [Suddenly realizes] Wait a minute...
- Gumball, Anais, Nicole, and Richard: Where is Darwin?
- [Back in the park, Darwin is still blindfolded, running in circles around a tree]
- Darwin: Did I win yet? Did I win yet? Did I win yet? [Crashes into the tree] Ow.
