Gumball and Darwin are in the the cafeteria, commenting on how they are having a slow day, and that nothing much is happening. Suddenly, the green bear stands up from the table in the background, and shouts, "Finally!" and starts singing a song, asking for Gumball and Darwin to notice him. As the song goes on, countless other minor and background characters join in and sing along. When the song stops, Gumball and Darwin are still shocked from this sudden development, driving Gumball to oblige to their request.
The first clip takes place in a flashback to the episode "The Sweaters," when Gumball and Darwin were having a tennis match against Carlton and Troy, and Darwin is singing "This is boring." The scene cuts to the audience. A cardboard person walks up to a blond guy, his friend, with popcorn and soda. Being cardboard-like, they can not move an inch, so the popcorn spills when the guy in the green shirt gives it to his friend. The blond guy tries to get his change, but gives up, and lets his friend keep it. Once the soda spills after an attempt of giving it to his friend, the guy in the green shirt leaves to get another one.
The second clip takes places at Elmore Hospital, where the Hamburger Cop is a patient. The bandage doctor walks up to him, and he asks the doctor what is wrong with him. His answer is, "Well, your cholesterol is way too high. I recommend you become a veggie burger." A rimshot is heard in response to this joke, but it actually comes from a drum kit guy, who is sick and has a cold. The doctor then says to the drum kit that he will be attending to him soon.
The third clip takes place at the bus stop. Ed says hi to the bus stop sign (which he thinks is one of them), but the bus stop sign does not reply. Ed gets mad at it for ignoring him and angrily hits the bus stop sign. Then the black rectangle notices that it is just a bus stop sign.
In the next segment of the story, Hank and George talk about their other construction worker friend, Steve, and his new haircut. Steve then comes up to them and the two others overreact, thinking his haircut looks bad. After Steve is insulted by their reactions, he leaves them. But his haircut blocks his vision when he turns around, and he falls down.
A bacon man is seen in the next part of the story, walking and singing about how he is bacon. He accidentally bumps into Colin and Felix, and the result is a frowning bacon and eggs face. The drum kit person from earlier passes by, and sneezes, playing a rimshot.
Back in Richwood High, the guy in the green shirt comes back with popcorn. He tries giving it to his friend slowly, but it falls to the ground again. The blonde-haired guy tries to bend over to pick up his food, but instead ends up flipping himself upside-down.
A pigeon lands on the Wattersons'house's chimney. Suddenly, a colorful bird lands near the other bird and starts dancing, trying to attract it. The colorful bird stops dancing after the pigeon tells him that he is a male. However, the pigeon tells him to keep dancing anyway.
In the next clip, Felicity and her son, Billy, are on the road in her car. Billy repeatedly asks his mother if they are there yet, wherever they are going to go to. Felicity tries her best to be patient, but after Billy asks her to drive faster, she crashes their car into a house. Billy's mother tells him that his father will take care of him while she will have a "little lie-down." On the lawn of the house, she knocks herself unconscious with a shovel.
The next segment of the story takes place in the Chanax Inc. building. Lenny, Mike, and Charlie hang out. After Lenny asks Mike what his job is, Mike says he is a financial practitioner contractor. Then he reveals that he does not know what it is, and he hates it. Lenny is glad that he is not the only one, and Charlie also tells them that he first came to use the men's room, and he has never found his way out. They question themselves why they are still working when Karen gives them their payment for their work, reminding them of the reason they are working.
The next segment shows the senior citizens having a dance-off. Marvin plays some music, and does some moves. He is followed by Donald, and all of them are wowed by Betty doing some moves, and standing up. Then it is Louie's turn. He gets up, and all of them cheer at this. Louie stops them, saying he has not done his moves. He does them, and points at a trash bin saying, "You just got served, young man." Marvin says that he is talking to a trash can, and asking if he took his medicine, and Louie (mistaking Marvin for a magic talking fire hydrant) tells him that he did not ask for his opinion.
In Richwood High, the guy with the green shirt says to his friend that the tennis ball is coming his way. He does not know what to do, and his friend asks him to catch it. The green-shirted guy tries to catch it, but the ball just bounces off of him, and flips him to his side, making him seemingly disappear. After his friend "saves" his life by making him "appear" again, they hug, but their arms get stuck.
In the next clip, a group of prisoners in their cell start humming and sing a song. One of them snaps his fingers to it. The song goes well until another prisoner plays his harmonica out of tune. The others do not mind and continue their song.
Gary is then seen in Win or Don't Win, waiting to see if he won the prize: a microwave. The host of the game announces that he won. Gary becomes so excited, he roars, tears his shirt off, and shouts his thanks at the host repeatedly. The host is happy until Gary hugs him not-too-gently, and begins kissing him. The host tries to flee, but is tackled by Gary. He screams for help and the show is cut off.
Back in Richwood High again, the guy in the green shirt complains about his arms getting tired, and the blonde-haired guy remarks that they can not do anything about that. The guy in the green shirt questions this, and after some effort discovers that he can actually move, turning into a human. The other cardboard-like spectators are amazed by this, until they see he is different, and become hostile against him. The human grabs his still stationary friend and flees from the angry crowd.
In the cemetery, a ghost rises and falls from his grave again and again. Another ghost nearby rises and asks the first ghost what he is doing. The first ghost says he is working out, and shows him his gut. The other says a joke and the drum kit passes by and sneezes, playing a rimshot.
The penultimate clip shows how the Pepperonis first met. First, Siciliana drops a napkin at a bus stop, which Quattro picks up for her. He gives it back to her, having written for her to meet him at the park. Once they meet, they fall in love immediately. After a montage showing the two on a tandem bike, having a picnic, and seeing a movie, the two exchange a kiss. However, when their faces touch, they become stuck together, and once they manage to pull their faces apart, they have become disfigured, causing everybody else in the park to scream in horror.
In a car, the human and his friend flee from the school. His friend is glad that he was not left behind, but is blown away by the wind. The human then says he will never leave him behind, unaware of his friend flying away.
In the cafeteria, the minor characters sing the reprise of the song, asking them to turn around and notice them. Gumball and Darwin look behind them upon this request, and they say that there are no more people behind them. The green bear says he did not think about that, ending the episode.
Running gag: The drum kit guy walking past people.
The characters who sing "Just Notice Us" break the fourth wall by acknowledging that they are very minor characters in the show.
In the song they sing "This one's about us," talking about the episode.
This is Gumball and Darwin's second minor role. Their first was in "The World."
This is the first time the characters featured in this episode (aside from Gumball, Darwin, and Marvin) have had major roles in the series.
This episode is very similar to "The World":
Gumball and Darwin are minor characters.
It is composed of short skits, one being a different story for a different character.
A song begins and ends the episode.
The lengthy skit of the Pepperonis' love story mirrors the lengthy skit in "The World" of Anais and her Daisy the Donkey doll's heartfelt friendship from when she first got her; both are lengthy and shown to soft music, but end in a way which comically ruins the whole heartfelt set-up, with screams of terror included, and both are the penultimate short story of the episode.
In the car where Billy asks "Are we there yet, mother?" the song playing on the car radio is the same song that Darwin's synchronized swimming group danced to in "The Club."
Two of the ghosts from "Halloween" reappear in this episode.
The construction men unintentionally saying hair-related phrases to Steve about his hair is similar to Austin Powers talking about the Mole's mole in Austin Powers in Goldmember. A similar thing happens where the construction men blurt out that his hair is terrible (similar to where Austin says that the Mole has a large mole on his face).
Marvin is one of the characters seen in the "Just Notice Us" song, singing that he never got the chance into the spotlight, even though there was an episode with him as a major character.
When the pigeon flies onto the chimney, he is covering more than half of the chimney. After it zooms in, the pigeon is covering noticeably less. It is possible that the pigeon did this so the chimney would have enough room for the second bird to land on.
When the view of Felicity's car changes, the side mirrors disappear.
During the song at the end, the Pepperonis are seen in the front. After it zooms in on Hank and George, they disappear.
During the part where Lenny protests about his job, Charlie's tie disappears when he is crying, and reappears as soon as he stops crying.
When Gary is hugging the shooting star, some of the confetti clips through the shooting star.
[The Green Bear, who is behind them, slams the table, and sings "Just Notice Us"]
Green bear: [Singing]Finally! Is it my turn? Is it my time to leap from the background, and shine![Dances]I've been quiet for way too long. I can say whatever I want to now. There is nothing to stop you from listening. Hey there! I'm talking to you! I've been behind you all along! But this is my chance[Hugs Gumball and Darwin]to stand in the spotlight and shine. And breathe! And sing! And dance![Grabs Gumball by collar]Just notice me!
All the extras: You have ignored us, for way too long. Do you think that's really fair? There's stuff that happens to us as well when you're looking elsewhere! So stop being blind.[Surround Gumball and Darwin]This is our time. It's your turn to stand behind. Don't make a fuss! This one's about us! Just notice uuuusssss!
At the Stadium
[Flashback to the events of "The Sweaters," back at Richwood High]
Darwin: This is boring, bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-boring, bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-boring...
[One of the cardboard-like human spectators goes to his friend amongst the crowd]
Human 1: Hey, dude, I got your popcorn.
[He attempts to give it to his friend, but his stiff arms instead make it fall down]
Human 2: Oh, thanks, man! Do you have my change?
Human 1: Yeah. It's just here in my pocket. Help yourself.
[The other cardboard-like spectator tries to reach into his friend's pocket. But he can't move his arms which are raised upwards]
Human 2: Whatever, man. Just keep it.
Human 1: Cool!
Human 2: Aw, man, I'm thirsty.
[The first spectator hands a drink, only to spill it. His friend sighs]
Human 1: You want another?
Human 2: Yeah.
Human 1: Sorry. [Moves away] Excuse me.
Hamburger Cop: So what's wrong with me, doctor?
Bandage Doctor: Well, your cholesterol is way too high. I recommend you become a veggie Burger.
[A drum kit sound. The doctor sees one of his patients, a drum kit, sneeze.]
Bandage Doctor: I'll be with you in a minute, sir.
In the Streets
[Ed, the Black Pentagon, and the Black Rectangle walk to the bus stop. Ed sees the bus stop sign, and makes a sing-song intonation noise equivalent to him saying "hi" to it. The bus stop does not respond. This angers Ed, and he rages at it until he hits the sign. The triangle's family recognize it as a bus stop sign, and not a shape person.]
Black Rectangle: Ed, it's a bus stop.
Gray Construction Man: [Drinks] So, you heard about Steve?
Hank: Yeah, I know. Apparently, he paid a fortune for it. But it's supposed to look just like the real thing.
Gray Construction Man: Wait wait! He's coming. Don't mention it. Just act cool.
Steve (offscreen): Hey, guys!
[Gray Construction Man is surprised. Steve comes in with a wig]
Steve: [Walks to them] What's going on?
Hank: Hey, Steve. Nothing much. We're just hanging hair-HERE! Hey, it's good to see your rug-MUG! Mug-mug-mug. But anyway, how it's going toupee-TODAY? Today.
[He pretends not to see Steve's hair. Eventually, he just stares at him]
Steve: [Laughs] All right, I know you know. So, what do you think?
Gray Construction Man: [Screaming] YOUR HAIR IS HORRIBLE!
Steve: Oh come on, give me a break. Hank, what do you think?
[Hank continues staring silently.]
Gray Construction Man: [Screaming again] IT LOOKS LIKE A WAX TURBAN! IT LOOKS LIKE A STRAWBERRY MOP! IT LOOKS LIKE A PINK FONDUE!
Steve: [Mad] You guys are real jerks, you know that?
Hank: Aw, come on Steve. No need to wig out.
Steve: [Insulted] Ugh! Gentlemen, goodbye!
[With his eyes closed, he turns back. But his wig does not, and covers his closed eyes. Steve walks away, but falls down a ditch]
Gray Construction Man: But it suits you!
Eggs and Bacon
[The Exercise Bacon walks along the street]
Exercise Bacon: Bacon man. I'm made of bacon! I'm the only one who can commit to vegetarian. To bacon! 'Cause I'm made of bacon! I'm the bacon man! And-
[He bumps into both Colin and Felix, cracking them open. The result is an eggs and bacon frowning face. The drum kit guy passes by, and sneezes]
Back at the Stadium
Human 1: [Moves through crowd] Sorry. Sorry. Me again, coming through. Hey dude! Here's your popcorn.
Human 2: Can you give it to me, slowly this time please?
Human 1: Sure.
[He hands the popcorn to the other spectator slowly. The popcorn falls again, but much slowly]
Human 2: [Sighs]
Human 1: Yeah. Sorry. Let me pick it up.
Human 2: No no no. I can do this.
[He struggles to bend over many times. Then he snaps himself, and flips upside down]
Human 2: AH!
Human 1: Dude! Are you alright?
Human 2: Yeah, everything's cool.
[A pigeon lands on the Watterson's house's chimney. Then a colorful bird lands in front of it]
[Marvin, Louie, Betty, and Donald are sitting in the lawn where they usually are seen. Then Marvin plays music from a nearby radio with his cane. He starts doing some dance moves, his bones cracking. He motions to Donald who moves his mustache. Betty moves her legs, and stands up slowly]
[She sits down, and Louie gets up]
Louie: Ugh, cut it out! I haven't started yet.
[He does some of his own moves, but his bones also creak and crack. Then he kneels, and points to a trashcan]
Louie: You just got served, young man.
Marvin: Louie, that's a trashcan! Did you take your medicine?
Louie: No one asked for your opinion, magic talking fire hydrant!
Back in Richwood High
[A tennis ball is served]
Human 1: Hey dude! The ball's coming my way. What do I do, what do I do!?
Human 2: Catch it.
Human 1: I got it. I got it! I got it-oof! [Get's hit by ball]
[This turns him to his side, and makes him look like he disappeared]
Human 1: Ahh! I vanished! Help me out!
Human 2: Ah! Turn back, man! Turn back.
Human 1: [Turns to side] Oh, dude. I thought I was gone. [Sobs] You saved me, man. Give me a hug.
Human 2: It's alright, bro. Everything is alright.
[Their upraised arms get stuck together, and they try pulling themselves apart]
Human 2: Dude, I'm stuck.
[In a jail cell, the Goblin, the Spray Paint Bottle, the Butterknife, and the Dolphin Man start humming a song. One of them snaps to and creates a rhythm. Then a fellow prisoner, the Spray Paint Bottle, plays the harmonica out of tune, solo]
Win or Don't Win
Shooting Star: Now, Gary. Let's see if you win at Win, or Don't Win!
[Gary sweats as the clock ticks]
Shooting Star: And he's won!
Gary: [Roars triumphantly]
Shooting Star: [Laughs]
Gary: [Rips off shirt][Grabs Shooting Star] THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Shooting Star: It's okay. It's only a microwave.
Gary: THANK[Hugs Shooting Star wildly]YOU![Hugs Shooting Star again][Roars] THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
[The Shooting Star gets scared, and tries to escape, but is being held by Gary]
Shooting Star: Whoa-ah! No, don't-
Gary: [Kisses Shooting Star, and wrestles with him] THANK YOU!
[In the bus stop, Siciliana takes out a cloth, but it is blown away by the wind. She bends to pick it up, and sees someone's hand taking it. Quattro then gives it back to her. The cloth now says "Meet me in the park, 2 PM." Siciliana looks up, and sees that Quattro is gone. The scene cuts to her in the park, sitting on a bench. She looks at the time on her watch, and once she looks back up, Quattro is beside her. They come close together, and hold hands. They have fun together, and bike, have a picnic and watch a movie. Then at the end of the day, they kiss. But their pizza heads stick together, and when they separate their heads, their faces are disfigured. Quattro groans, and the animals nearby get scared, scream, and flee from them]
[The moving spectator is seen driving a car]
Human 1: Oh man, I can't believe I almost left you there.
Human 2: I'm glad you came back. I'm also glad you stole a convertible.
Human 1: Don't worry! I've got your back, bro.
[Human 2 screams as he is blown away by the wind.]
Human 1: I will never leave you behind.
Back to the Cafeteria
All The Extras: So now that you know, we're people like you. And you've seen our lives. The things that we do. Don't leave us behind. Keep us in mind. So now turn around, and notice uuuusssss!
