Plot
SPOILER AHEAD! Important details about the plot or story are up ahead |
Gumball repeating blowing his fingers to Principal Brown to start a freedom of speech. Miss Simian wouldn't let Gumball read his poem at the recital tonight. Principal Brown begins freaking out about his butt, then he leaves Gumball. Gumball chases Principal Brown and goes to his office and was going to read his poem on the intercom. Principal Brown rips the door and pulls the intercom away, causing mass destruction to a transmission pole. Gumball realizes Principal Brown's fear of his butts and promises to help him overcome it.
Gumball takes Principal Brown to Cut Me Loose in order to shave off his butt. Gumball comforts Principal Brown, while taking pictures of his butt and filtering it. When Larry was starting to shave his butt, Principal Brown freaks out and cuts to him having a stand-off with the police and getting flashed bang. It cuts to them in jail with a cell-mate that looks threatening, then they get released by Donut Cop.
At the Wattersons' house, Gumball takes Principal Brown to see Richard for him to ask a responsible adult about his problems. Richard takes them to his room and shows him a trick. Richard then looks at a mirror and his appearance starts to change, making him look better than before. Gumball already knows he looks good, so he pushed Principal Brown to try. It was starting to work, until he started to look at his butt and which he became more uglier. He also infected Gumball and Richard and rotted the whole house to the point they all ran outside.
Gumball had enough and asked why he was afraid of his butt. Principal Brown tells him that he was bullied for having a shiny butt and the bully is the Superintendent. Gumball cries a lot on him and makes another promise to get his confidence back, but it cuts to him tied up to a chair. During the recital, Principal Brown and the School Superintendent were talking. And he does remember Principal Brown and bullies his butt again. Gumball noticed Principal Brown and unties himself with his butt, then he pushes Molly out of the way and reads his poem about his butt.
Principal Brown then takes Gumball's microphone and pushes him away, but then he is in the center of the stage. The poem falls on him and then reads it to his students. Gumball starts to mix a song in and Principal Brown starts rapping onto Gumball's poem. Everyone starts to go crazy and shake their butts, which makes the SuperIntendent mad. Principal Brown then took off his butt-wig which made everyone freak out. The Superintendent then rushed out into his cab and was going to fire Principal Brown and left. The whole school is now partying and which ended the episode.

Trivia
- An animatic of this episode was screened during the Warner Bros. Animation panel at Annecy 2024.[2]
- Principal Brown is revealed to wear a wig on his butt due to getting bullied for having a bald butt.
- It is also revealed that Principal Brown, Quattro, the milk guy, the spray-paint bottle, and Larry all went to the same school when they were kids.
- This episode is tied with "The Romantic" for the shortest amount of screen-time Darwin has in an episode.
- This is one of animator Freddie Elsom's favorite episodes from the series.[5]
- Principal Brown's reflection oddly resembles one of Prinicpal Brown's future versions in “The Amazing World of Gumball Vol. 3: Recipe for Disaster.”
Continuity
- This episode marks Principal Brown's seventh major role. The first six were in "The Apology," "The Fraud," "The Bus," "The Singing," "The Pact" and "The Wish."
- Gumball crying on Principal Brown is similar to where he cried on Darwin in “The Catfish.”
Cultural references
- During the "Butts' Rap", Banana Joe does the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" dance and Gumball does the Brazilian Luffy dance.
- In that same scene, Clare can be seen doing the "Scott Pilgrim" victory dance, which became a viral animation meme trend on TikTok with the song 'Move yo body' by Bryansanon.
- Tobias’ reaction after Principal Brown take off his fake butt wig is a reference to the famous Supa Hot Fire parody meme video. He does the same expression as the guy who runs in front of the screen.
- During the scene where Principal Brown, Gumball and Richard exchange screams at their grotesque looks, the background music is reminiscent of the theme that plays when Uncle Ruckus from The Boondocks appears.
Goofs/errors
- "The Inquisition" is seemingly retconned in this episode as Principal Brown knows the identity of the school's superintendent whereas in the former he had no idea what he looked like.
- In the flashback, Quattro is first seen putting his bowtie on, but when he appears again, his bowtie is gone.
- Miss Simian's name is misspelled as "Miss Simeon" in the closed captions.

Gumball's Poem
- [The episode begins at Elmore Junior High. In the hallway, Gumball attempts to whistle with his hands in front of Principal Brown, but only blows raspberry.]
Nigel Brown: What exactly is going on right now?
Gumball: [stops "whistling"] I'm whistle blowing. My freedom of speech is being infringed upon. Ms. Simian refused to let me read my poem at the recital tonight.
Nigel Brown: Well, for starters, the superintendent will be present. And knowing you, that poem is probably as appropriate as chest hair on a newborn baby.
Gumball: [inhales] It's about my butt.
- [Principal Brown gasps and begins to feel insecure. Looking around the hallway, he sees Teri and Sarah laugh silently about something, and Tobias and Banana Joe having an indistinct conversation before turning to him. After looking back at Gumball, he breaths out and tries to remain calm.]
Nigel Brown: Have a good day, Watterson.
- [He hastily leaves; Gumball gasps and follows him.]
Gumball: It's not just about butts. It's also about self-love [poses as a heart] and accepting yourself as you are, and-- [Principal Brown begins to race walk away from him] Sir? Sir! Principal Brown?!
- [Gumball race walks to catch up to him.]
Nigel Brown: What are you doing?
Gumball: [passes him] People need to hear my message!
- [Principal Brown realizes that Gumball was heading towards the intercom in his office, which was at the end of the hall.]
Nigel Brown: Oh, no!
- [Gumball and Principal Brown race each other to the office. Gumball move his legs rapidly and zooms past Principal Brown and into his office. Once inside, Gumball tries to throw the door closed, only to watch the door close slowly.]
Nigel Brown: Don't you dare, Watterso-o-o-on!
- [The door snaps closed; Principal Brown walks into it. Gumball quickly grabs the intercom while Brown beats on the door.]
Nigel Brown: [off-screen] Watterson!
Gumball: [through the intercom] This poem is called "My Butt," by Gumball Watterson.
- [Principal Brown beats on the door until the walls completely come off.]
Nigel Brown: Give me that!
- [He grabs the cable and yanks the intercom off Gumball. A powerline breaks out of the ground across the hallway, sending Mr. Small into the ceiling and slicing Banana Joe in half. The cable comes out of the school and destroys a jenga game Carmen, Masami, and Juke were playing. In the distance, a transmission pole comes down and explodes. Gumball watches from the window of the office while Principal Brown pants.]
Gumball: I'm not gonna lie. For someone who looks like an anemic shower drain cannelloni, that was mad impressive.
Nigel Brown: [sighs] I'm sorry, Watterson. It's just, I have a problem with butts. My own, specifically. [stammers] I-- I cover it up with-- I'm not gonna go into details, but mine is weird and gross. Can you let this slide, please?
- [Gumball whimpers and begins to shed tears, in which he tries to blow them away.]
Nigel Brown: Uh-- Don't make it a thing. Please, I beg you!
Gumball: [whimpers] I can't let you suffer like this. I swear to help you love yourself!
Nigel Brown: [dramatically] No. No! NOOOOO!
Gumball: Can't you see your own shame is putting your students at risk of reliving the same misery?!
Nigel Brown: NOOOOOOOOOOO...!
Gumball: IT'S FOR THE GOOD OF THE CHILDREN!!
Nigel Brown: ...OOOOOOOO-- Oh all right, then.
Leaning How To Love Your Butt
- [Cuts to the "Cut me loose" Barber shop at the strip mall. Inside, Principal Brown sits on a chair with his butt covered by a blanket and facing Larry. Gumball stands in front of him holding a phone.]
Gumball: You know, sometimes all it takes to feel better about a part of yourself is to find a new way of framing it.
- [Gumball aims the phone at his curled up fingers that resemble a butt and takes a photo.]
Nigel Brown: Well, feel free to frame my butt for homicide... of my self-esteem.
Gumball: That butt is part of you. You just need to see it in a new light to learn to love it again. Look. [swipes through his phone for different hair styles] No, no, no. Yo, this one kind of slays.
Nigel Brown: If you're talking about heretics during the Crusades, maybe.
Gumball: [continues to swipe] No, no, no. Oh, that's kind of bold. No future!
Nigel Brown: Yeah. For my work life. Oh, this one feels very me. [points to his phone]
Gumball: Yeah, it's got that 1950s "I-don't-do-feelings" Daddy realness. Larry, you're up. [snaps his fingers, making Principal Brown nervous]
Larry: I don't get paid enough for this. [raises his chair]
Gumball: [takes Principal Brown's hand and pats it] Okay, just relax now. Everything's gonna be all right.
Nigel Brown: [swats his hand away] I'm an adult man, Watterson. [Larry lifts the blanket and turns on the razor clippers in his hands] I know how to handle my--
- [Once Larry begins cutting, the scene immediately cuts to Principal Brown surrounded by the police at the entrance of the barber where all the glass windows were shattered, holding Gumball hostage with a razor near his head.]
Nigel Brown: AHH!!!!! STAY BACK! STAY OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- [A stun grenade is thrown near them and explodes, blinding everyone. Principal Brown and Gumball sit in a prison cell, with bruised eyes and a high-pitch sound ringing in their ears. They groan.]
Gumball: So what was that about?
Nigel Brown: It would appear my butt issues are a little more "deep-seated" than I first assumed.
Potato head: Ahhhhhh, Maybe I can help. The people from my village used to complain a lot about how they looked. But they missed those parts they didn’t like once they were gone.
- [The Potato head steps in front of the light revealing him and Gumball and Principal Brown are both terrified. Gumball is so terrified, his heads is in his body. Then, Donut cop walks into the cell.]
Donut Cop: Oh hey, you guys. So you want to press charges or anything?
Gumball: No. no, I’m good.
Donut Cop: Oh great, then you’re free to go.
- [Once donut cop said they’re free to go, Gumball and Principal Brown runs straight out.]
Donut Cop: Oh! [Laughs] Oh, you can go too, by the way. No witness, no body, no crime.
Potato head: Thank you, Officer. I’ll get back to my work.
- [Potato head then leaves.]
Donut Cop: Another case closed for Elmore's finest.
- [Donut cop then accidentally closes the cell door in the inside, thus trapping him in jail.]
Donut Cop: Uh…
Asking For Help
- [Gumball then drags Principal brown to his house.]
Gumball: Want to know what I do when things don’t go exactly to plan? I ask a responsible adult.
- [It cuts to Richard eating a corn on the cob then he sticks his head in the microwave. Gumball and Principal brown walks in on him.]
Gumball: But when Mom's not home, I ask him.
- [Richard tail pops as he sticks his head out of the microwave showing his face to be completely red. He then opens his mouth showing the popcorn he tries to eat.]
Richard: What to do when society forces unrealistic beauty standards upon you, and your body looks like a gas station burrito.
Nigel Brown: Make popcorn, I guess?
Richard: [Richard touches Principal Brown’s fur on his mouth] No. You look at yourself with the kindness you deserve and find the beauty within.
- [Richard hugs himself and looks in the mirror with a pained smile. His reflection then morphs to have a muscular body.]
Nigel Brown: Oh! I see it too! How could it be? Is there some sort of delusional pathology?
Richard: [Richard's head in his reflection turns handsome.] Nope! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder my friend!
- [As he walks away, Gumball slides up to the mirror, his reflection a humanoid cat-boy version of himself with jewelry and more stylized clothes.]
Gumball: I'd demonstrate too but, [sighs] unfortunately I was blessed with such a physique that I just can't be improved upon. Anyway, you give it a try. [Gumball pushes Principal Brown towards the mirror.]
- [Principal brown smiles at himself. Therefore he also grew muscles and more fur on his body.]
Nigel Brown: Oh!
Gumball: Come on, love yourself!
- [Principal Brown looks confident until he looked at his butt, making him feel terrified. His reflection then mutated to something horrible and made him ugly.]
Gumball: Wait, wait, wait! Stop! What are you doing?
- [Principal Brown's reflection keeps getting worse, which mutated the whole house.]
Nigel Brown: [Gasp] I can’t stop!
- [Then Principal Brown looks at Gumball horrified, as Gumball's face looks horrible with his teeth all messed up. Gumball screams then looked at Richard and freaked out over him. Richard look horrible like Gumball and screamed at Principal Brown. All three of them keeps looking worse and they keep screaming at each other. The house is so rotted, they all ran outside of the house.]
Principal Brown's Backstory
Gumball: What’s up with that butt of yours, man?
Nigel Brown: Uh, I’m sorry. Let me explain. You see, I was born with a bald butt. I never questioned its shape until that day…
- [It fades into a flashback as Principal Brown as a kid in the locker room.]
Nigel Brown: With the local school bully.
School Superintendent: Huh? [Chuckles then proceeds to laugh] What’s up with that?
- [Other students notices the bully laughing and starts to laugh with him.]
School Superintendent: Why is your crack so short, bro? Does it whistle when you toot? [Everyone laughing] Guys, look at this, it looks like an egg with a cleft chin.
- [Everyone laughs at him again until a flood swoop them. It cuts to Gumball crying on Principal Brown with a ton of tears on him.]
Nigel Brown: I resorted to wearing a butt wig from that moment forward. Huh, it’s funny how a small, innocent comment can affect the rest of your life.
Gumball: I don’t know. Sounds like that kid was a massive cuss word. [Gumball then grabs on Principal Brown and shakes him.] But that’s why you have to let me read my poem tonight. So we can right this wrong and no student will ever have to feel ashamed of their body again.
Nigel Brown: That kid went on to become the superintendent, Gumball. He’ll be at the recital tonight.
- [Richard gasp.]
Gumball: But-
Nigel Brown: This is the end of this discussion. No ifs, no ands, and no bu- bu- bu- bu…
- [Principal Brown then cries and walks away from them.]
Gumball: I’ll heal you, Principal Brown, with the power of spoken words, no matter whether you want it or not.Mark my words, Principal Brown! I wil-
The School Recital
- [It cuts to Gumball getting strapped into a chair with duct tape on his mouth. He is shown to be at the recital in the crowd, while Molly is giving her speech.]
Molly: Gray is the color of the gray sock. Gray is the color…
- [Principal Brown looks at Gumball behind the curtains.]
Nigel Brown: I’m sorry, Watterson, but I couldn’t let you rope me into further humiliation.
- [Principal Brown goes into the back and sees the School superintendent there.]
Nigel Brown: Oh, I hope you’re enjoying the evening, sir.
School Superintendent: Oh yeah, my taxi’s coming, I’m gonna have to cut it short… But not as short as you know what.
- [Principal Brown starts to panic.]
Nigel Brown: I beg your pardon?
School Superintendent: It is you, isn’t it? [laughing] What was your nickname again? Uh… uh… Badonkadonk? Oh wait, uh… uh… Benedict Plundercrack! [Laughs] Wait, wait! It’s coming! Petite Cakes!
- [Principal Brown freaks out as his bully starts laughing. He gets out to breathe which Gumball notices. He uses his butt to untie the rope from behind which broke him free.]
Molly: Gray is the color-
- [Gumball kicks Molly of the stage and grabs the microphone.]
Gumball: This one’s called “My Butt” by Gumball Watterson. Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle. When I pop a hip, Rocking from top to bottom As I do a dip. Pumping with adrenaline, Wobbling like Gelatin-
Facing Your Trauma
- [Gumball angered the School Superintendent, but then Principal Brown charges at Gumball and shoves him to the speakers. Principal Brown then looks at the students, breathing heavily. It again cuts to him as a child being scared in front of people. Gumball’s poem drops in front of him.]
Gumball: Come on, do it for the children!
Nigel Brown: Uh… Because that beautiful butt was born to bounce to the beat, it’s um, gonna rock the lights out. So, get off you seat.
- [Gumball sets up loud music for Principal Brown’s poem. Gumball starts dancing as Principal Brown got some confidence.]
Nigel Brown: Got so much junk in the trunk that I could dunk on my haters, yo.
But I don't mess with punks. Sorry, bro, I'll see you later, though.
I got that meaty might.
Background Voices: What?
Nigel Brown: The wiggly delight!
Background Voices: What?!
Nigel Brown: I'm ready to ignite in spite of guys who think it's right to laugh at me behind my back!
But it's cool, though, cuz they're wack.
And I've got better things to do in my life than to drag on my back cuz all the sad that the bullies are going through.
Got visions on my mind where they cry and they gag and I laugh when I shake it about. And they see me go.
Let me give it to you straight! Don't waste all that good cake.
Forget the hate just drop the weight.
Turn it up make it vibrate.
Just, jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, shake all of that!
Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, shake all that.
Yeah, you clap, back at the Nay-say-ers..
Shake the haters off like a player.
Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, shake all of that.
Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, shake all that!
We don't harm no one.
Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle. We just have some fun!
Audience: I refuse to feel shame for the way I was made.
Nigel Brown: Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, shake all of that.
Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, jiggle, shake all that!
School Superintendent: Shame on you! How do you sleep at night?!
Nigel Brown: On my stomach so you can kiss it, Mr. White!
- [Principal Brown then takes off his butt wig, which made all of the students shocked. Principal Brown starts shaking his butt in the stage, Gumball felt proud, but the School Superintendent got sick and left. Outside of the school, The School Superintendent goes inside his taxi.]
School Superintendent: That guy’s time as principal is gonna be shorter than his- uh?
Potato head: Good evening, sir.
School Superintendent: Uh, uh. To the airport. Make it quick.
Potato head: Hmmm. Perhaps a short, cut.
- [All of the students are dancing to the music and being chaotic. Principal Brown is still shaking his butt on stage and shows Sussie dancing now.]
- [Cut to black.]
