"Alan" is the fourth episode of Darwin's Yearbook.

Synopsis

Darwin wants to put Alan on the cover of the school yearbook – but Alan’s apparent modesty gets in the way.

Plot

The episode starts back into Darwin's bedroom, he is still working in the yearbook as Carrie chats him, she wryly asks if there is enough room for Alan's ego just after Darwin mentions he was going to add him in. He argues back pointing out how helpful and wonderful his inspirational quotes are as clicking to a video which collect different Alan's inspirational quotes from previous episodes. It brings a lump to Carrie's throat, but it is just her breakfast, Darwin laments how people always try to blow Alan up, mostly Gumball, Carrie ended up somehow agreeing with Alan being part of the yearbook not without before warning him that it may not be a good idea.

She exits chat while Darwin clicks at the "Ice Bucket Challenge" video from "The Uploads," after watching how damaged Alan ended in the video, he decides to chat him, Alan eagerly answers his call revealing he was just thinking about him after he found a bright penny and thought of giving it to him, Darwin states how kind he is and tells him that's why he decided to put him on the cover of the yearbook. Alan kindly denies his proposal arguing that there may be someone else more worthy of being in the cover. Darwin points out that he could take his proposal more as an apology for all of those times that He, but mainly Gumball, have made mean things to him, like forgetting his name and the fact he has no hands, a scene from "The Third" is shown.

Alan mentions that was just a bad day, but Darwin emphasizes in how rude they could be with him, showing a scene from "The Photo," therefore Alan recalls him that Gumball also has made some favours for him, the bathroom scene from "The Storm" comes next, Darwin denies it pointing out he was pretty adamant about it. Alan agrees, but he still believes in Darwin as being a really good friend, Darwin doubts it since he was balmeworthy for one of his murdering attempts as a scene from "The Vision" is shown, since Alan did not blow up there he does not blame him, quickly Darwin corrects him because he was popped many times before as different scenes where Alan is blowed up are shown.

Alan, yet not offended argues that it is common for balloons to explode, Darwin adds how they also have tried to burst his family showing a scene from "The Traitor," and how Richard almost popped his dad as a scene from "The Bus" is also shown, Alan reveals how as toasts, ballons can bounce back, showing all of those times Anton died in "The Recipe," but Darwin points out how they have removed alan's organs in "The Traitor," thing that they had not done to any other friend.

Alan, grossed out for the memory also argues that he can not be in the yearbook because of the way he eats, many clips where he is seen eating from his bun are shown, nonetheless Darwin clarifies he is not going to choose a photo of Alan eating, but one he looks great on the camera, Alan corrects him emphasizing in how Leslie is much more photogenic, a scene from "The Petals" is shown. Darwin does not agree because of Leslie being too dramatic, instead of Alan which is very cheerful and happy, Alan contradicts him pointing out how like in "The Faith" he could get depressed.

Therefore, Alan mentions Gregor, a strange who Darwin met in "The Decisions" which appears to be always in good mood, Darwin finally accepts it, but his decision caught Alan off guard, who seems jealous about it, Darwin ignores him and tries to add Gregor in the yearbook instead, but Alan desperately tries to get his attention making himself blow up, Darwin notices him so at the last minute puts Alan to the yearbook, Carrie turns out being right, Alan can be very egocentric.

Alan's Big Ego

[The episode begins in Gumball and Darwin's room, where Darwin is seen typing on a laptop. The camera then zooms to his laptop's screen, showing Darwin moving the letter "n" towards Alan's name to finish making his name in the yearbook slot. Carrie then starts texting Darwin]

Carrie: [texting] Hey Darwin, how's that yearbook coming along?

Darwin: [texting] I'm just about to add Alan.

Carrie: [texting] Are you sure there's enough space for his ego?

Darwin: [texting] What do you mean? He's all about helping other people. And look, he makes these wonderful inspirational quotes.

[Darwin plays a video of Alan's inspirational quotes on his laptop, containing scenes from "The Saint," "The Third," "The Question," "The Photo," and "The Storm" playing the instrumental of "Life Is Beautiful" in the background]

Alan [flashback/video]: ["The Saint"] When a man says yes to life, life says yes to him. ["The Storm"] If you wanna be loved, first, you gotta love yourself. ["The Photo"] Real beauty comes from within. ["The Third"] It's never too late for friendship. ["The Question"] The meaning of life is to be good to others. ["The Saint"] It doesn't cost anything, and it might just buy someone a smile. ["The Photo"] You need to learn to accept yourself for who you are. ["The Saint"] What's important is that you stay true to yourself. ["The Question"] If you help someone, then one day, they might help someone else, and the world will be a better place. [Alan floats out of the camera's view, then Darwin texts Carrie again]

Darwin: [texting] Doesn't it bring a lump to your throat?

Carrie: [texting in green] [short of breath] Yep, but it's my breakfast.

Darwin: [texting] Hey, poor Alan— all people ever wanna do is try to burst his bubble. [clicks to see that the video was disliked by Gumball ten times and liked by Leonard Daniels once] Specifically Gumball.

Carrie: [texting] Okay, go for it, but don't say I didn't warn you.

[Darwin scrolls to another video made by Alan titled "Ice Bucket Challenge."]

Darwin: Oh! Ice Bucket Challenge!

[Darwin plays the video of the Ice Bucket Challenge, seen in "The Uploads"]

Alan: I was nominated by my friend Gumball for the Ice Bucket Challenge. To be on— [Bobert blares an alarm]

Bobert: COMMUNICATION ERROR: You are not friends with Gumball.

Alan​​​​​​​: [Chuckles nervously] To be honest, I think it's better to just give to the cause without doing the challenge, but— [Bobert blares another alarm]

Bobert: LOGIC ERROR: Why are you doing it then?

Alan​​​​​​​: What's the harm in having a little fun while helping others? Anyway, the knowledge that I'm doing my bit for those less fortunate than me will keep me warm. [Bobert blares yet another alarm]

Bobert: NEGATIVE— [Alan glares at Bobert] Altruistic aid of others will provide zero insulation.

Alan​​​​​​​: Okay, you know, Bobert, sometimes you can be a little too literal, you know? Just pour the ice bucket, please?

[Bobert proceeds to pour the ice bucket]

Alan​​​​​​​: I nominate Tobias, Darwin, and— [Bobert pours the ice bucket on Alan, but it is solid ice and pops Alan before he can finish. Darwin stops the video]

Darwin: Aww, poor guy— it always ends so badly. [Darwin clicks the message icon to message Alan]

Talking to Alan

Darwin: [texting] Hey Alan.

Alan​: [texting] Hey, I was just thinking about you! I found a bright new penny and thought, "Darwin would love that."

Darwin: [texting] You're so kind Alan. Which is why I'm gonna put you on the front cover of the yearbook.

Alan​​​​​​​​: [texting] Oh no no no no no, surely there is someone more worthy of that honor than I.

Darwin: [texting] Well then consider it an apology to all the mean stuff me and Gumball-

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: [texting] Mainly Gumball.

Darwin: [texting] Mainly Gumball has done over the years. Including forgetting your name and... um... handlessness.

[The scene cuts to when Gumball and Alan were on a play date from "The Third."]

​​​Gumball ​​​[flashback]: Ah, come on, Adrian! Roll the dice! Roll the dice!

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: I can't! I got no hands!

Gumball: Argh! Fine! I'll do it for you! [Rolls the dice] Six. Right. Pick a card!

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: I still have no hands!

Gumball: Argh, do I have to do everything?!

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: Listen, Gumball, do you really wanna be doing this? I mean, we've never even hung out before, and now we are having a sleepover.

Gumball: Did I ask for your opinion, Alfred?! [Alan deflates a little]

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: Can I at least call my mom?

Gumball: Fine! But keep it quick! [Gives Alan a telephone]

[Brief silence]

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: Still no hands.

Gumball: Number!

[clip ends]

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: [texting] Hahaha, we all have our bad days, David ;-).

Darwin: [texting] Seriously though, we've been really mean to you.

Too Mean

[The scene cuts to when Gumball threatens Alan in "The Photo."]

Gumball: Now listen here, you no-good-lying hunk, if you don't tell me your secret, I'll have no choice but to buy you a one-way ticket to pain town.

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: Gumball, there is no secret.

Gumball: [Sigh] You made me do this. [Pushes Alan to the floor, only making Alan bounce off and hit Gumball] Ow! [Repeats] Ah! Darn it! [Repeats] Face me like a man! [Repeats a few more times]

[The scene skips to Gumball, Alan, and Darwin again, with Gumball having a black eye and beaten-up face. Gumball weakly punches Alan again and again. He gets tired and falls back]

[clip ends]

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: [texting] Yeah, but he's done me favors too!

[The scene cuts Gumball going back in the boys' restroom to see Alan, almost completely deflated, lying on the toilet bowl from "The Storm."]

Gumball: Duuude, pull yourself together man. You got to start dating again!

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: What's the point?

Gumball: Because... [Reads from his notepad] the duck-billed platypus is known to store about six hundred worms in its cheek pouches— [Stops for a second] Wait, that's my biology notes. [Gumball moves backwards while speaking his quote backwards too] Because... you owe it to Carmen. If she sees you moving on, then she'll be able to do the same thing and find happiness she deserves!

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: You're right. I'll do it for Carmen! But, who would date such a shriveled bag of sadness?

Gumball: Well, no one. But, if you re-inflate, you can have a shot with Masami!

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: I don't think I have enough strength to inflate. [Gestures his knot towards Gumball]

[Alan and Gumball exit the boys' restroom. Alan has a pleased expression, and Gumball looks disgusted]

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: Thanks, Gumball!

Gumball: Whatever, man.

[clip ends]

Darwin: [texting] That was a one-off though. He was pretty adamant about it.

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: [texting] Okay, well, if Gumball wants to apologize, he can. But you, Darwin, have been nothing but a true friend.

Darwin: [texting] I dunno. I kinda got involved in your assassination attempt.

[Cuts to Gumball and Darwin trying to kill Alan in "The Vision."]

Darwin: Activate sniper mode.

[He puts in the dart, aims for him, and extends his eye to a sniper-like shape. He tries to aim at him, but his sniper eye aims all over the place]

Gumball: Dude, what are you doing? [Gasps] There he is!

[He tries shooting, but ends up sucking the dart and choking on it. He falls. Walking behind Alan, Gumball pushes the students and steals a stapler from Mr. Corneille]

Gumball: Goodbye, Alan. [He triggers the stapler on the wrong side, and the staple shoots to his forehead] Ow! Ahhhhhh. [Gumball falls to the floor]

[clip ends]

Alan​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​: [texting] Haha, well, you didn't pop me so no harm done.

Darwin: [texting] Let me stop you there. We've popped you like a zillion times.

Popped

[Cuts to a montage of Alan being popped in numerous ways. Starts with Darwin mistaking him for Clayton in "The Anybody."]

Darwin: Busted! [pops Alan]

Alan​​​​​​: Aah!

[Then Gumball stopping his evil plan in "The Vision," spreading joy to other classmates until touching Carmen in "The Joy," Nicole blowing on him in "The Pizza," after Gumball transforms into a man in "The Mustache," Gumball throwing a rock at him in "The Voice," getting knocked into Carmen in "The Banana," as well as avoiding Anais in "The Guy."]

Alan: Aah! [pops]

[Then getting hit by Jamie's dodgeball in "The Stories," Darwin's preemptive strike in "The Photo," and Gumball sharp claw in "The Decisions."]

Alan: [filled with water] No! Nononononono!

[Water shoots out, breaking through the doors of the Mall and drenching the two cops outside.]

[montage ends]

Alan​​​​​​: [texting] Sure, but what can I say? Balloons are gonna burst, right? ;-)

Darwin: [texting] We also burst your family.

[The scene cuts to Alan in the Hospital, seen in "The Traitor"]

Gumball: [Entering the wrong room; off screen] You got busted! [Wrong room again; off screen] You got busted! [kicks door open] You bot gusted! [Whispering] Oh dagnabbit, I messed it up!

Alan​​​​​​: What?

Gumball: Everyone thinks you're so perfect, so I invited you over to make up for the way I treated you, but to avoid hanging out with me you lied about your mother being ILL!!!

Alan​​​​​​: But my mom is ill.

Gumball: Or maybe she's just exhausted from all the fun she's been having today! [To Jessica] Stop pretending! Hey!! [Pops a smiling balloon that looks like a "get well soon" gift, next to the hospital bed]

Alan​​​​​​: That was my Uncle Phil!

[clip ends]

Darwin: And even our Dad nearly popped your dad.

[The scene cuts to Dexter trying to get the briefcase from"The Bus"]

Dexter: Okay, you hold onto me, and I'll reach out and grab the briefcase! [goes out of bus door but gets caught in wind] Maybe we should switch!

[clip ends]

Alan​​​​​​: [texting] See, us balloons always bounce back— we're like toast that way.

Darwin: [texting] Yeah— wait what? Toast doesn't bounce!

Alan​​​​​​: [texting] I mean like Anton. Whatever life throws at him he just keeps on bouncing back.

[The scene cuts to Anton keeping on bouncing back from "The Recipe"]

Alan​​​​​​: [texting] See, He deserves to be on the yearbook cover, not me!

Darwin: [texting] Ok, sure! He had a hard time too! But remember when we literally removed your organs? We've never done that to any of our other friends.

Flatulum Transplant

[The scene cuts to Gumball and Darwin, recovering Alan and Jessica. this is from "The Traitor" too]

Gumball: Okay... Flatulum transplant... Any ideas?

Darwin: Try this! Elmore Biology!

[Darwin gives gumball a picture book supposedly depicting the anatomies of different Elmore residents; however the book is a little weird, as Sarah and Hot Dog Guy appear to have skeletons and Rocky has a skeleton shaped like a giant hand referring to him being a puppet; they finally find the right pages]

Gumball: Ah, balloons! There! Flatulum transplant! Okay... Uuhh, ooh.. Not okay...

[Gumball peers through Alan's knot while Darwin examines the book]

Darwin: Look to your left. There should be a gland.

Gumball: Mmmm, no...?

Darwin: Okay, look to your right...

Gumball: Mm... nope!

Darwin: What can you see?

Gumball: Nothing! This guy is full of air.

Darwin: Let me look... [Stuffs his face through the knot; his voice is changed from inside Alan] Oh, you're right, all his organs are made of air!

Gumball: Just grab anything; it'll probably be the flatulum.

[Darwin pokes around inside Alan and pulls out an invisible airy organ, which suspiciously sounds like a beating heart]

Gumball: Uuuhhh, no.

[Darwin plugs the organ back in]

Darwin: It's all invisible! How are we supposed to do this opera–

[The peg that was holding Alan's undone knot pops off and air starts gushing out; Darwin screams]

Darwin: Ahh! He's gushing air everywhere!

[Gumball and Darwin are horrified as air blows all over their faces; Alan's heart rate monitor beeps without interruption as Darwin grabs hold of an invisible organ and passes it to Gumball]

Darwin: Here, grab the flatulum!

Gumball: Got it!

[Gumball fails to grasp the slippery air organ and drops it onto the floor and shouts out in horror of what he's done; he falls on his knees and fumbles to find it]

Darwin: Quick! We're losing him!

Gumball: Give him CPR!

[Darwin tries, but it makes even more air come out, in bursts]

Darwin: It's not working!

Gumball: Then try something else!

Doctor: What's going on he–

[He sees Darwin, gasps, and backs away. The door swings closed]

Darwin: Uh– I think the anesthetic's worn off!

Gumball: How can you tell?

Alan​​​​: MY INSIDES ARE POURING OUT!!!!

Darwin: What do we do?! What do we do?!

[Darwin and Alan are both screaming; Gumball, unamused, licks a finger and pokes it into the balloon opening, like a plug. Alan passes out.]

Darwin: [texting] See!

Darwin: [texting] Gregor?

Alan: [laughs] [texting] LOL. What?

Alan: [nervously] [texting] Sure. Gregor.

Darwin: [texting] Okay thanks Alan, you're a star.

[Darwin closes his DM window, and goes on Gregor's profile]

Darwin: Okay then, Gregor... [hums to himself as he searches for a photo]

[Then many images of Alan pop up, filling his screen, as well as his DM window with Alan.]

Alan: [texting] Oh my bad. They weren't meant for you, I was trying to drag them to the trash! PLEASE, delete them, I look AWFUL.

Darwin: [texting] Okay. [puts all images to the trash] Bye. [closes his DM window]

[Darwin eventually finds a photo of Gregor and puts him on the Yearbook front page.]

Darwin: There, all done-

[His DM window with Alan appears again.]

Alan: [texting] PLEEEAAASSS. [pops]

[The DM window also pops.]

Darwin: Alan? [texting] Alan are you so desperate to be on the cover that you just popped yourself?

Alan: [texting] Yes.

Darwin: [texting] Okay, I'll put you in it.

[Darwin replaces Gregor with a photo of Alan and Gumball.]

Alan: [texting] Thanks

Carrie: [texting] Told You.
