As school comes to an end Rocky pulls up in the school bus, calling for everyone to board for the trip home. To his surprise, however, Ms Simian comes up to the door holding a tray of food. She complains about what he was serving to the children at lunch, before dumping the contents of the tray onto the floor and demanding he clean it up. Furious, Rocky sits with Principal Brown in his office and reports the incident to him, demanding he make Miss Simian do his job to teach her a lesson. Nigel refuses, though quickly changes his mind when Mr and Mrs Robinson reveal themselves and threaten to sue,
The next day Gumball, Darwin, and the rest of the class are delighted when they find that instead of Miss Simian, they have Rocky teaching them. He explains everyone at school is going to be swapping jobs for a while, in order to respect how much Rocky actually does for the school, before moving on the classes first lesson; partying.
Hours later the lunch bell rings and Gumball and Darwin leave the class, in awe at how much they enjoyed the lesson. Starving, they head to the cafeteria. Miss Simian, Principal Brown, and Nurse Markham are running the kitchen, and to their disgust serve them refried beans and vitamins topped with a tuft of Principal Brown's hair. Refusing to eat any of it, the two decide to go back to class, hoping to distracted from how hungry they are by how fun the class will be. Unfortunately their hopes are quickly destroyed when Principal Brown takes the lesson and makes them do a bunch of tests. Meanwhile, Rocky is now Principal.
Over at the Rainbow Factory, Nicole starts to receive a overwhelming amount of complaints about the school, so many so that she is forced to stay behind at work for an hour. Calling Richard she explains this and asks him to watch over the kids and otherwise do absolutely nothing else until she gets home, to which he agrees. Meanwhile school finishes and Gumball and Darwin crawl out, unable to stand because they're so hungry. Instead of the school bus waiting for them they find Mr Small waiting for them with a goat attached to a small cart. There is only enough room for Carrie to get on board, forcing Gumball and Darwin to crawl all the way home where they find Richard standing perfectly still and waiting for them.
They beg him for food, and after debating Nicole's orders he agrees to make them a snack. Believing three of them means they'll need three times more food, he stuffs the microwave with as much food as he can, causing it to explode upon being started. Fortunately Anais arrives home, having ridden on Mr Small's cart. and finds Gumball and Darwin still on the floor. Opening her bag, she takes out a bag of cheese puffs and pours them onto the floor. The two ravenously devour the snacks, before getting back up and thanking their sister. Darwin asks why she wasn't starving like them and she explains she always packs her own lunch, before questioning where their Dad is. In the kitchen he attempts to plug in multiple microwaves at once, causing him to be electrocuted and the power to go out. The resulting surge creates an inedible molten, toxic pool of plastic which he serves for dinner. Realizing that he used all of the food in the house, Anais suggests they go to the store.
Outside Richard is worried Nicole will be mad, but Darwin insists that the cheese puffs Anais fed them will only keep him and Gumball going for a few minutes, and that they need something proper to eat. Meanwhile as Anais looks around she realizes the power has gone out not only in their house, but the entire neighbourhood. Overhearing her say that Richard is to blame, Mr and Mrs Robinson furiously begin to chase them. They attempt to escape in the car, but Richard is unable to start it so Anais insists they run to the store for safety. Richard refuses to go with them however, as he promised Nicole that he wouldn't do anything. Leaving Gumball, Darwin and Anais to run away Mr and Mrs Robinson catch Richard and begin to slap him repeatedly.
As they run to the store the three siblings find the town in disrepair as everyone around them riots, much to Anais' confusion. As Gumball hungrily attempts to chew his arm, Darwin realizes that without television or the internet they've returned to a primal state. Arriving at the store the three find Jamie, Tina and Tobias have taken it over, and demand they pay a tribute. Gumball explains they have no money and begs for mercy. but Jamie refuses and insists that he'll pay with his life instead. Before she can hurt him however, Rocky heroically jumps through the window and stops her by cooking a meal for the six of them. They thank him and apologise for how they acted, explaining they were lashing out because they were so hungry. Rocky apologises back, claiming it was his fault for wanting to be treated with respect like a normal person, and now realizes he was wrong for wanting such a thing,. Baffled and furious, Anais complains how terrible the lesson Rocky learnt is.
