The Evil Turtle is a minor character in The Amazing World of Gumball. She was the pet of Gumball, Darwin, and Anais. She made her first appearance in "The Puppy." She was accidentally bought by Richard while she was pregnant.

Appearance

The Evil Turtle is likely an African softshell turtle (Trionyx triunguis), the only living member of the Trionyx genus. In "The Nest," her species is referred to as Occidere machinae ex infernum, roughly "killing machine from hell" in Latin.

She has a long, wrinkly neck, and a small, protruding snout. Her carapace and head are olive in coloration, while her plastron is mint. Darwin notes that she smells "like a belly button."

Personality

She focuses all of her efforts into biting people. She is also practically invincible, being able to survive a direct hit from a car, and leave an explosion unscathed.

• "The Puppy": Her first major role and appearance. Gumball, Darwin, and Anais wanted a puppy, but they get the Evil Turtle instead because Richard mistook her for a dog, where she makes the lives of the Watterson kids uncomfortable.
• "The Name": Zach forces Darwin to live with her in her little home.
• "The Burden": She tries to bite Chris Morris.
• "The Man": She appears as part of Gumball's Rube Goldberg machine.

Season 4

• "The Nemesis": She can be seen in the background when Gumball and Darwin throw a party for Rob.
• "The Traitor": She briefly appears in the background.
• "The Nest": Her second major role. Her offspring invade Elmore and terrorize several citizens.
• "The Compilation": She appears in one of the videos.

Season 5

• "The News": (cameo) This is her final appearance in the series.

Trivia

• Evil Turtle is based on Ben Bocquelet's own pet turtle he bought from someone in Marseille who had freshly caught it. The "evil" aspect came from an incident in which the real-life turtle brutally killed the three others it shared a tank with.
  • In addition, it is also a reference to the film Gremlins, in which the titular creatures have a weakness to bright light.
• Other details and elements regarding the turtle were also based on the real-life equivalent
  • The turtle's enclosure is based on the enclosure the real-life turtle had.
  • The turtle's sunlight-induced "death" is a reference to how the real-life equivalent died after Ben's Uncle left it outside in the sun, causing it to dehydrate.
• The turtle laughs in a manner similar to Hannibal Lecter.
• The turtle can see in infrared vision like the Predator.
• "The Nest" reveals that the turtle is a female, a fact foreshadowed by her desire to reproduce in "The Puppy."
  • The same episode reveals that she was actually pregnant, rather than just evil.
    • However, shortly after the characters make this conclusion, the turtle and her babies attack and successfully sink an entire cargo ship, so both seem to be the case.
  • However, Gumball refers to the turtle as a female in "The Man."
